For brands and parts sellers
Embeddable 3D repair guides for hardware makers and parts sellers
Your customers want to know what is inside before they open it. We build interactive 3D teardown and repair guides of your products, with the risk map, every screw and the traps to avoid, for your support pages, your product pages or your parts shop, in one line of HTML.
Why now: the right-to-repair rules
In the European Union, the Right to Repair Directive, (EU) 2024/1799, applies in every member state from 31 July 2026. Makers of the products that EU law sets repairability requirements for, among them smartphones, tablets, washing machines, dishwashers, fridges, displays and vacuum cleaners, must repair them within a reasonable time and for a reasonable price, sell spare parts at reasonable prices, make their repair services easy to find, and may not use contract terms, hardware or software that stand in the way of repair without a legitimate reason. Since 20 June 2025 the ecodesign rules for smartphones and tablets (Regulation (EU) 2023/1670) have also required their critical spare parts to stay available for seven years after a model's last sale in the EU.
In the United States, state laws ask makers of consumer electronics to offer parts, tools and repair documentation to owners and independent repair shops on fair and reasonable terms: in California, Minnesota, New York and Oregon, and in 2026 also in Colorado and Washington (from 1 January), Connecticut (1 July) and Texas (1 September). A summary of the state laws.
What each law asks depends on the product and the market, and this page is not legal advice: ask your counsel which rules apply to you. Our guides help you publish repair information people can follow; on their own they do not make a product compliant.
What a guide shows
- Before you open it. At step 0 the closed device turns see-through: where a pick must not go and how deep it may go, the cables under each edge, the battery no metal may touch, and every screw as a pin in the colour of its length.
- Every step, in the real order. Screws carried to their own numbered wells, connectors off in turn, parts laid out on the mat. Explode spreads the layers apart; Reassemble plays it all back, every screw to its own hole.
- The traps to avoid, in red. What really goes wrong, played out, then done right, slowly and up close.
- Three views and a guided mode. A workbench, a clean line drawing and a see-through view; Guided goes one step at a time.
- DIY or a repair shop? A scorecard with the difficulty, the time and what can go wrong, and a parts and tools list that can point to your own shop.
- Any browser. On a phone or a computer, with no app and no plug-in.
Put it on your site
One line of HTML embeds a guide: the player on its own, with a link back to the full guide and its safety notes. This is the iPhone 15 battery guide, embedded:
<iframe src="https://itakeapart.com/teardown/iphone-15-battery-replacement-3d-guide/?embed" title="iPhone 15 battery replacement, in interactive 3D" width="100%" height="640" style="border:0; border-radius:12px" allow="fullscreen" loading="lazy"></iframe>
Embedding a guide on another site comes with a licence from us (see our Terms).
How we work
- You tell us the product and the repairs. A battery, a screen, a port, a stick: and whatever service information you can share.
- We build it from the facts. The 3D model, every step and every word are made fresh, and you review each step before it goes live.
- You publish it. Embed it, link to it, or both; when the product changes, the guide changes with it.
A guide made with a brand says so on its page; our own teardowns stay independent.
